A fire has started on the Dubai Expo 2020 site, a spokesperson confirmed, days after “the world’s greatest show” was officially postponed to 2021. The spokesperson explained, “A medium fire broke out earlier this morning on the Expo 2020 site in construction debris. The fire was brought under control quickly by emergency services. It is now out, and nobody was harmed.”

The fire was caused by a welding operation.

Expo 2020 Dubai will now open its doors to the public from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022 “for the world to come together and celebrate human brilliance and achievement like never before”.
