Lebanese Australian model and philanthropist, Jessica Kahawaty, has a never-ending list of talents and admirable qualities. She holds the Miss World Australia 2012 title, she is the proud owner and founder of food venture Mama Rita, and not to mention Kahawaty is a humanitarian who has dedicated years of her life to those in need by working with the United Nations. There really isn’t much left a woman could do to win our hearts over; except of course, having incredibly flawless hair. Lucky for you, we know her secret and she’s given us permission to share it with you.

Apart from Kahawaty’s endless list of vocations, she is also one of the faces of celebrity-approved haircare brand: Hair Food. Jessica is one of the 4 regional influencers to star in the company’s latest campaign, #FeedYourHair, which is all about reminding us that if you want luscious locks, you’ve got to feed your hair the same healthy and nutritious ingredients you would feed your gut. Jessica is no stranger to healthy eating; whether we’re talking about what’s on her plate or in her shampoo bottle. Hence, we decided to chat with her about her strict hair-care regimen, just so we can stand a chance at silky and smooth hair too.

You seem like someone that takes care of her health, what are your top three tips to maintain a well-balanced and healthy life?

Doing things in moderation is my mantra. Top 3 tips would be:

      1. Don’t deprive yourself of anything and listen to your body.
      2. Stay away from harsh chemicals and preservatives in food, skincare and haircare.
      3. Take your sleep seriously. I sleep a minimum of 8-9 hours every night, have apps to monitor my sleep quality and don’t compromise when it comes to resting my mind and body.

There’s been a huge shift into beauty from the inside-out. What are the most important foods in your diet that are most beneficial to nourish your hair, skin, nails and so on?

This shift has come through advancements in research and science. Eating foods rich in protein and vegetables as raw as possible is great. Cauliflower and broccoli are essential to women’s health. A handful of almonds and walnuts a day is great for nails and general mood. Avocado is one of my favourite foods and a healthy monounsaturated fat. I love to spread it on sourdough toast with dry zaatar on top!

It’s no secret that you’ve got enviable hair, talk us through your hair routine. Any specific rituals and products you can’t live without?

I’ve always taken care of my hair and ensured only good products are used. I discovered Hair Food 3 years ago and haven’t been able to live without the Avocado shampoo, conditioner and hair mask. I travel with them everywhere. Not only is the product gentle on my hair but it also smells amazing.

You’ve shared your haircare routine on Instagram where you talked about how you love the Avocado Collection from Hair Food. What is it about this ingredient that you love?

I’ve loved avocados ever since I can remember. How can something be so tasty and good for you at the same time? Not only is it a healthy fat but it’s known to be great for your skin, gut health and a rich source of antioxidants. The avocado collection from Hair Food does miracles to my hair, it keeps it so smooth and shiny.

What is your favourite product in the full Hair Food line up and why?

The mask is truly a miracle hair mask. I put a small quantity from the middle of my hair down to the ends, I leave it for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it off. The smoothness and moisture it creates is incredible. I’m able to style my hair easily afterwards and the shine is beautiful.

You’ve worked with Hair Food in their latest campaign. Why is this particular brand partnership important to you, and what do you hope your fans and followers take away from this campaign?

I love working with brands that I truly believe in. It was important to understand the workings, ingredients and vision for the brand when starting my journey with them. I love how the ingredients are all natural and free of harsh chemicals like sulfates and artificial dyes. My followers should understand the benefits of the ingredients in Hair Food, like the Avocado Collection which has the right ingredients to take away frizz from the hair, and this particular campaign conveys this in a fun way.
