You might have had a Fulla doll growing up, but Barbie was and always will be the OG doll that every little girl collected. With long blonde locks and pretty pink outfits, little girls around the world have idolised the doll for years. So when news broke out that Warner Brothers was set to produce a Barbie movie, we couldn’t hold our excitement. Playing Barbie will be none other than Margot Robbie, who undeniably fits the roll. According to The Hollywood Reporter. the film will premiere next summer, possibly July 21, 2023.  Alongside Margot Robbie will be an A-List cast, including every girl’s real-life Ken, Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, American Ferrera, Kate McKinnon and Simu Liu, according to IMDB.

While the plotline is still unknown, a brief plot on IMDB gives us a vague idea of what to expect. “A doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world.” In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter,Robbie shared, I can’t talk about it. I want to tell you everything, I do. All we can say is whatever you’re thinking, it’s not that.” A first look image of the film was revealed, featuring Margot Robbie channeling her inner doll cruising in a pink convertible.

Whilst Robbie may very well be a suitable candidate to play Barbie, we couldn’t help but ponder what Arab actress would nail the role in an Arab rendition of the film, so we rounded up a few noteworthy candidates. Here’s to hoping it may come true.

GIGI HADID

Who better to play Barbie than a supermodel? She may have never been featured in a film, but Palestinian-Dutch model Gigi Hadid is no stranger to the limelight, not to mention her newly assigned role as Next In Fashion’s newest co-host. There’s no denying Hadid would upgrade any Barbie rendition.

Elyanna

Whilst she may not have starred in a film before, we can almost guarantee that the Palestinian-Chillean singer would be up to the challenge. With her golden locks and mesmerising voice, there’s no doubt that Elyanna has a few hidden talents she’s yet to reveal.

TARA EMAD

Egyptian actress Tara Emad is known for her roles in several Arab films and series, and most recently for her part in the Arabic rendition of the hit TV show ‘Suits.’ Who ever said Barbie had to be blonde?

DANIELLA RAHME

Lebanese/Australian Actress Daniella Rahme has starred in several must-watch series, including fan-favourite ‘Tango.’ Rahme’s ability to go from cheeky to serious definitely wins her a few points for this role; including her ability to pull off almost any hair colour.

SALMA ABU DEIF

Think of Salma Abu Deif as the Middle East’s sweetheart. With her infectious smile, incredible fashion sense and experience in the industry, it’s guaranteed she’ll win everyone’s hearts as Barbie.

CARMEN BSAIBES

Lebanese actress Carmen Bsaibes, best known for her role in Aroos Beirut, encapsulates everything we love about Barbie. She’s confident, sweet and is a beauty icon in her own right.
