Nonstop creativity and energy flowed through the capital of Saudi Arabia this weekend for the launch of Riyadh Fashion Week.

Starting on a high note, Saudi couture fashion house Ashi Studio, under the creative direction of designer Mohammed Ashi, inaugurated the event, showcasing his newest collection in his beloved hometown after conquering Paris Haute Couture Week.

Needless to say, the room was buzzing with anticipation as the pinnacle of glamour and flair glided down the runway.

A love letter to the city that raised him, Mohammed Ashi’s collection featured his signature voluminous shapes and delicate lines. Absorbing inspiration from Bedouin culture to the majesty of architecture, epitomised eloquence floated through the King Abdullah Financial District stage.

Twinkling stars and bashing sand dunes included, this collection was titled 8pm. Centring the splendour of desert nights, the set eluded the intangible tranquil beauty of the sandy havens. Still with glamour, Mohammed stays true to his imaginative nature. As evening-wear, for cocktail parties to galas, seemingly levitate through the stage. Geometric shapes and unapologetic jewels drape his pieces, adding cosmopolitan romance and drama to his collection.

Having dressed the likes of Beyoncé, Her Majesty, Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Zendaya, and beyond, from the Oscars to the Cannes, Mohammed’s art has seen groundbreaking heights. As the first designer from the Gulf to be invited to showcase his work Paris’ Haute Couture calendar, the visionary reminds us what informed his DNA. As he inaugurates Riyadh Fashion Week with an ode to his most loyal clientele and the roots that sprouted him. Translating modern femininity and the city’s infinite beauties, the collection is not just a homecoming. It is a salute to the structures, stories and beauty that came before him, and grow within him.
