For 30-something year-olds and ’90s loving millennials, Sex and the City has become somewhat of a theatrical bible of navigating casual dating life. You’d be lying if you didn’t take at least one moment from the rom-com series as truth and for actress Anya Taylor-Joy, it was watching past episodes of the television hit that helped her through breakups. But not in the way you’d expect.

In a recent interview, the 25-year-old admitted that she was never interested in casual dating but when she was struggling with a breakup, she’d watch the on-screen escapades of Carrie Bradshaw to make sense of her relationships at the time.

“I was not a good dater and I’m quite glad to not be,” Taylor-Joy admitted. “I hear stories from my friends and I’m like, ‘God, I would suck at that.'”

“I remember when I met Sarah Jessica Parker, I was going through a horrible break-up, and I went up to her and I was like, ‘I need you to know that I’m watching you and Big and it’s giving me hope,'” she explained. “And she was like, ‘That things will work out?’ and I said, ‘No! That this will end and I will finally move on!'”

Brutal, but true. Apparently Parker’s response went along the lines of,  “‘Oh, s–t. Sorry,'” the actress recalled.

The Queen’s Gambit star has been dating Malcom McRae of the rock band More, since 2021. The couple went Instagram official in October last year.

It wasn’t long ago that Taylor-Joy was rumoured to have been dating The Crown star, Matt Smith. The pair had been photographed getting extremely cosy at the Venice Film Festival in September last year where they were promoting their upcoming horror film, Last Night in Soho. It was all a bit of good acting for the cameras.
