Between 2013 and 2017, Anna Sorkin posed as a wealthy German heiress who was supposedly awaiting a $67 million trust fund under the name Anna Delvey in order to defraud banks, hotels and acquaintances in New York City. In 2019 she was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on four counts of theft of services, three counts of grand larceny and one count of attempted grand larceny.

Based on Jessica Pressler’s New York Magazine story “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People”, American television producer Shonda Rhimes has partnered with Netflix to deliver a 10-episode series, Inventing Anna. Julia Garner who is best known for her roles in Ozark and Dirty John will star as Sorkin while the cast also features Anna Chlumsky, Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox and Alexis Floyd.

This week, Netflix released the first teaser trailer to Inventing Anna.

If the short 50-second trailer is anything to go by, we can expect plenty of amazing fashion and binge-worthy content. Think Gossip Girl turned on its head.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads: “In Inventing Anna, a journalist (Chlumsky) with a lot to prove investigates the case of Anna Delvey (Garner), the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene — and stole their money as well. But is Anna New York’s biggest con woman or is she simply the new portrait of the American dream? Anna and the reporter form a dark funny love-hate bond as Anna awaits trial and our reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: Who is Anna Delvey?”
