Celebrations are in order for two GCC royal families with a recent engagement announcement.
It’s been unveiled that Kuwait’s Sheikha Layan Abdullah Al Hamoud Al Malak Al Sabah and Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Khalid bin Jassim bin Ahmed Al Thani are officially engaged, as reported by Arabian Royal Agency.
The union of the two Arabian royals marks a moment that further cements the relationship between the monarchical families, as the two countries are on the Arab Peninsula with fewer marital ties between royal figures.
The announcement was released in Arabic, with a letter that read: “May Allah bless them both, bring them together in goodness, under the blessing of Allah and by His grace.” This was followed by the words: “Sheikha Layan Abdullah Al Hamoud Al Malak Al Sabah is engaged to Sheikh Jassim bin Khalid bin Jassim bin Ahmed Al Thani.”
The two remain elusive figures within the Gulf’s Royal scene, with very little public information being available on both. As of late, however, Sheikha Layan made a rare public appearance alongside her family on day three of The Royal Ascot, the renowned British horseracing track. The Kuwaiti royal stepped out in a chic look, wearing an all-white ensemble paired with a classic red lip. A moment that was a widespread topic of conversation as the royal figure’s elegant demeanour added to the intrigue of her rare public appearance.
Sheikha Layan is part of the Al Sabah family, the ruling family of Kuwait, who have led the country since the early 18th century. Some of the family’s most prominent figures include Kuwait’s 15th Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the 16th ruler Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
As for Sheikh Jassim, the royal is a part of the Al Thani family, which has long ruled Qatar’s royal dynasty. The family features numerous branches of members within the family tree, including prominent figures such as Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad and Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The relationship between the Kuwaiti and Qatari royal families has long remained strong, with Qatar’s current Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani frequently being spotted alongside members of the Kuwaiti family, including the current Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah – a bond that has only been solidified by the reunion of these two royal figures.
