There’s nothing that excited us quite like an Olsen sighting, and at Monday night’s CFDA Fashion Awards, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen made a rare joint appearance in New York City on behalf of their brand, The Row. At the event—often referred to as the Oscars for fashion—the sisters quietly stole the spotlight in their signature understated way, skipping the red carpet at the American Museum of Natural History but arriving arm in arm to accept the American Accessory Designer of the Year award—a win that happens to be their seventh CFDA win to date.

In footage captured by The Cut, the sisters wore matching black coats that epitomised The Row’s discreet luxury: Ashley in the label’s ‘Erdene’ coat, a tailored wool tuxedo style with a satin shawl collar, and Mary-Kate in a similar dramatic silhouette with more structured shoulders. Each styled her look with a plunging neckline to let their accessories do the talking… and talk, they most certainly did.

Between them, the twins wore over Dhs1.4 million in vintage Cartier jewels dating back almost a century. While Ashley pinned a 1928 Art Deco jadeite and diamond brooch from Macklowe Gallery ($65,000 USD), Mary-Kate wore a 1938 citrine and diamond necklace from FD Gallery — the very piece that once sold at Sotheby’s for over $330,000 USD.

Together, they struck the signature Olsen balance between restraint and extravagance. Relying on meticulously crafted minimalist silhouettes as a base for statement-making accessories that elevate an all-black ensemble with character and warmth.

Accepting their award from actor Benito Skinner and jeweller Jennifer Fisher, the sisters, both 39, offered a brief but heartfelt speech thanking their customers, collaborators and family.

“Without your support, we would not be here today,” they said. “Thank you for giving us the love and kindness that allows us to show up to work each day.”
