It looks like we can count Zac Efron and Vanessa Valladares out of the list of potential cast members for Netflix’s sure-to-be-bad new reality TV show Byron Baes. After 10 months together, reports started circulating yesterday that the pair had called it quits on their adorable beachside romance.

Following articles in the press, Efron’s friend, Australian radio presenter Kyle Sandilands, confirmed the split live on air. Sandilands, who attended Efron’s 33rd surprise birthday in Byron Bay which was thrown by Valladares, claimed there was “no drama” in the couple’s break-up and that the split was “recent” but not “yesterday recent.”

The break-up is surprising for a multitude of reasons. Namely, the couple had been travelling around Australia filming outback scenes for Efron’s Netflix documentary series, Down to Earth with Zac Efron.

Valladares had been spotted at several locations across the country with Efron and at one point, his brother Dylan even flew in to meet her and join the show.

Over the Easter long weekend—less than three weeks ago—the couple reportedly stayed at a rural motel with the daughter of an employee singing their praises to the celebrity gossip Instagram account Dexumoi.

In the DM, the person said Efron is “the nicest celeb she’s ever met” and that he “smells nice.” Before going on to say Valladares was “also lovely and she did hers and Zac’s washing.”

As a reminder, Efron and Valladares met in mid-2020 when the actor was living in Byron Bay. According to People, Valladares was waitressing at the Byron Bay General Store & Café in June.

At the time, a source told Us Weekly the couple is “very smitten with one another” and that they love being “active” and spending time outdoors. They noted that Valladares has “calmed [Efron] down a lot”, and that he’s swapped partying for “grabbing brunch” and other such wholesome activities.

What’s more, TMZ reported back in August that Efron was considering following in Chris Hemsworth’s footsteps and moving to Byron Bay full-time. The outlet didn’t cite the actor’s stunning girlfriend in the equation, instead saying that the potential relocation was mainly a reflection of the relatively safe and paparazzi-free nature of the area.

I don’t know about you, but I’m holding out hope for reconciliation.
