Whether we are escaping the mundanity of our post-restricted lives or the messiness of our social media feeds, a woman’s night time routine has become a much-needed tool to disconnect and relax. In a series “How I Wind Down…”, we speak to lot of different women about how they prepare for a restful evening.

If you don’t know Valeria Lipovetsky then it is quite likely that with two million Instagram followers and millions more video views then you’ve probably already watched some of her content. For the unacquainted, Lipovetsky is a US-based  influencer, content creator and brand founder who has garnered a loyal following for her take on style and family life.

Lipovetsky first worked in the fashion industry at just 15 years-old and has since partnered with global brands including Calvin Klein, Chanel, Dior, Estée Lauder, Fendi and La Mer. Outside of fashion the content creator is also a qualified Holistic Nutritionist. In the next instalment of How I Wind Down, we speak with the 32-year-old for insight into her nighttime routine.

GRAZIA: Can you describe your night-time beauty routine?

“I’ve been oil cleansing for years and it’s my favourite way to wind down, nourish my skin and take off my makeup. I use the Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser and a gentle warm towel to take everything off. When I have heavier makeup on, I double cleanse.

“Once everything is off, I’ll let my skin dry for about 10-15 minutes before I apply my retinol. I started using retinol last year and use it about four to five times per week. Once retinol is on, I apply almond oil around my eyes – it’s my best kept secret – and use a heavier night cream to seal it all in. My favourite night cream is the Lancôme Absolute Cream and I always make sure to apply it to my neck and décolleté! Hand cream and ta da – operation ageing gracefully is done!”

How do you wind down after a busy day?

“For starters I’ve implemented a screen time limit on all devices last year, so my phone shuts down at 7pm, which helps with sucking me out of the daily rat race of emails and social media. As I have three kids, realistically, there’s not that much time for winding down until they’re off to bed. Once they’re asleep, my winding down usually involves my skincare routine and some reading in bed. I keep it simple.”

How do you decorate your space to assist in falling asleep?

“All I need is a tidy room and fresh sheets! Sometimes I’ll light a candle and keep the lights dimmed to subconsciously signal my body to start winding down.”

What time do you go to sleep?

“I’m an early bird – I usually wake up between 5:45 am and 6 am – so I love an early bedtime. I like to go to sleep at 9pm, but it depends if the kids go to bed on time! Usually by 9pm or 10pm I’m out.”

Do you plan the next day’s look the night before or in the morning? If so, what’s your go-to look for an easy morning the next day?

I like the process of getting dressed and I’m lucky that it’s part of my job and my content, so I usually leave it for the morning-of to see how I feel that day and who I want to be. On busy days, my easy go-to look will be trousers or jeans and a white T-shirt. I’ll accessorise with some jewellery and a bag and I’m out the door.”
