Selena Gomez has a few beauty signatures. She loves a winged-eyeliner moment, a statement pout, and, most notably, her naturally dark brunette locks. But for the winter, a season where many look to darker tones, the Rare Beauty founder has gone against tradition in favour of a more summery look. Taking a cue from Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Keke Palmer, who have all opted for similar warm shades, Gomez surprised fans by donning a fresh honey hue with summery highlights over the weekend.
Crafted by hair stylist Philipp Verheyen, the transformation also involved the addition of some bombshell layers for ample volume and a face-framing effect, with the length sitting slightly shorter at her chest.
In the photos shared by Verheyen, the 31-year-old is seen wearing a black tweed blazer over a navy blue top, with cool-toned smokey eyes and a nude lip to compliment the outfit.
The Only Murders in the Building star has been known to dabble with highlights and varying lengths, cuts and bang shapes with her hair in the past but hasn’t been chosen to rock this particular shade before.
Both in 2017 and 2021, she did experiment with icy platinum blonde, though.
At the time, her hair stylist, Riawna Capri, shared the gruelling process of taking her from brunette to blonde in one very ambitious salon sitting.
“When your client brings in a picture of #NirvanaBlonde, you pull up this informational Insta,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Let them know it took nine hours, 300 foils, eight bowls of bleach, all with two hair stylists working together simultaneously.”
Quite the commitment, but Gomez has proven she’s always game to mix up her look. And her latest hue is giving us some serious inspo for the new season ahead.
