Following a trend set by Riley Keough and Harry Styles, who eschewed their signature hairstyles for a shade of raven black and a buzz cut respectively, Rihanna has also recently undergone a major hair transformation unlike anything we’ve seen in her entire career. A move that completes a hattrick of surprising beauty shakeups.
Indeed, bad gal RiRi is now blonde girl RiRi, taking a leaf out of Beyoncé’s playbook and stepping out with a long, honey blonde ‘do. Rihanna appeared in Los Angeles for back-to-back solo dinners sporting waist-length straight tresses.
In an era where the chin-grazing bob reigns supreme, Rihanna’s bucking of the short trend is unexpectedly refreshing. Though, given the mother-of-two has tried everything from a fire-engine red pixie cut to a half-head of box braids, we should’ve anticipated the anti-establishment move from beauty’s bona fide rebel. She didn’t start the Fenty Effect for nothing, right?
Rihanna’s recent shade is a more natural take on the beachy blondes we’ve been used to seeing on the celebrity style set, with the colour a borderline lived-in bronde. The luxe caramel shade has been increasing in popularity since the boom of “recession brunette”: a low-maintenance style of light brown that not only stretches the duration between salon appointments but stretches the budget, too.
But don’t get it twisted, despite the more subdued hue, the outcomes are just as high impact. And for the blondes amongst us, myself included, who have let their natural roots grow out and highlights diminish due to the rising cost of treatments, Rihanna’s shade of blonde is the ultimate colour for achieving “rich girl” locks. There is nothing more stealth wealth than the perfect natural balayage.
