Whether we are escaping the mundanity of our restricted lives or the messiness of our social media feeds, a woman’s nighttime routine has become a much-needed tool to disconnect and relax. In this series “How I Wind Down…”, we speak to a lot of different women about how they prepare for a restful evening.

The How I Wind Down series was conceptualised in 2021 as means of escapism during the uncertainty of the world. Now as we return to a new normal, it has provided ongoing inspiration for women looking to sleep better at night. For lifestyle and fashion aficionado Rozalia Russian, she admits to having trouble falling asleep in an interview with GRAZIA.

From the everyday trials of parenting, alongside her many collaborations (including Billini and Atoir) and the launch of new hospitality venue Bar Bambi in Melbourne, it comes as no surprise that Russian relies on a slow nighttime routine to wind down each night. Below she reveals her secrets.

GRAZIA: Can you describe your nighttime beauty routine?

“My nighttime routine is a time that I spend that little bit extra time to give my skin some TLC. I will always start by taking my make up off with Neutrogena make up wipes. They are my absolute favourite! I will then cleanse using Rationale number 4. After cleansing I like to do a detoxifying clay mask and one of my go to is from Skinceuticals. Following, I love using Dr Naomi Skin LED Masks which I have found has really helped my skin texture. I will then finish off with my night time products such as a Biopelle retinol and then a Dr Spiller moisturiser.”

How do you wind down after a busy day?

“After a busy day, once my kids are asleep, I wind down by doing my skincare routine, popping on my comfiest pjs’ and then jump into bed and reading a book.”

How do you decorate your space to assist in falling asleep?

“Lately I have had trouble sleeping so I really rely on a wind down routine that helps me fall asleep. Things like warm low light, a quiet space for me to be able to read and I also use This Works Sleep Spray every night along with a relaxing oil.”

What time do you go to sleep?

“I will pop into bed around 9:30pm and read for an hour. I like to be asleep by 10:30pm each night as I wake up quite early.”

Do you plan the next day’s look before you go to sleep? What is your go-to ensemble?

“When I am not working you will either find me in my gym clothes or my go to uniform which would be suit pants, a tank and blazer with runners. When I am working or attending an event I will always plan my outfits in advance just so I am prepared. The mornings are always busy with getting the kids ready for school so I only have around 30 minutes to shower, apply make up and get dressed. So, having my outfit already planned and laid out is key.”
