Billie Eilish’s parade of oversized Willy Chavarria at the Golden Globes, custom Chrome Hearts at the Grammys and an eclectic Vivienne Westwood ensemble at the Oscars nominees luncheon proved that her approach to red carpet dressing was anything but conventional. But arriving on the red carpet for the 96th annual Academy Awards, Eilish made her sophomore entrance in a look that not only rewrites the rule book but references her own Oscars history, too.

For the occasion, the songstress appropriated corporate cliches in a single-breasted black blazer, ruffled white button-down shirt and a black-and-white tweed pencil skirt from Chanel. The musician’s personal style has undergone a radical evolution in recent years, with the calf-grazing skirt, ankle-lining white socks and heeled Mary Jane shoes offering a softer look at Eilish’s approach to feminine red carpet dressing. (Eilish also made no attempts to shy away from her political outlook by wearing an Artstists4Ceasfire pin on her lapel.)

The last time Eililsh attended the Oscars she took home the ‘Best Original Song’ award for the James Bond theme, “No Time To Die”. At this year’s event, she’s also nominated in the same category alongside her brother and songwriting partner, Finneas O’Connell, for their work on the viral sensation “What Was I Made For?” from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Given this unbroken track record, Eilish has paid tribute to her debut at the 2020 ceremony by reprising Chanel tweed.

As you’ll recall, Eilish took her penchant for billowing sets to Hollywood’s night of nights in an ivory woollen suit dotted with interlocking ‘CC’ brooches, white lace gloves and exaggerated nails.

Here, the approach to nonconforming styling took a more subtle route, with her two-toned toxic green and black hair swapped out for loose charcoal waves that framed her face. She’s just being Billie, but doing so in her Sunday Best.
