Since giving birth to her first child with husband Taylor Goldsmith, a son named August, Mandy Moore has remained refreshingly real on the triumphs and pitfalls of motherhood. At the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards overnight, the This Is Us star took to Instagram to share her “MVP accessory”. While for some of us it could be a Fendi baguette bag (as inspired by Carrie Bradshaw) Moore’s is more of a necessity: a breast pump.
After an all-important pump beforehand, Moore arrived at LA Live for the Emmys wearing a fiery red dress by Carolina Herrera’s creative director, Wes Gordon.
It comes after the 37-year-old actress published some heartfelt comments about her breastfeeding journey on social media in August.
“Breastfeeding is not always smooth sailing (clogged ducts, timing life around feedings, pumping for when I’m at work, etc… ) but nursing this baby boy for the past nearly 6 months has been a beautiful, messy and an oh so rewarding experience I will treasure forever,” she wrote to Instagram.
Moore continued, “It goes without saying that #fedisbest and I’m grateful to my body and the tremendous support I’ve had around me (especially in the beginning days and weeks when I had no clue what I was doing) for allowing me this time to nourish my sweet guy.”
In July, Moore joined licensed psychologist and perinatal mental health specialist, Dr. Ashurina Ream, on an Instagram live. She described how motherhood at times can be strangely isolating.
“I had these preconceived notions of myself going into motherhood,” Moore said. “Obviously, I knew it was going to be challenging, but I thought, ‘Oh, I maybe have this sort of naturally maternal side,’ whatever the heck that means. But I guess I just didn’t really recognise the worries, the fears, the sense of responsibility that is so ever-present moving forward once you become a mom.”
We say yes to more of this realness!
