Lady Gaga is dredging up some long-forgotten fashion aesthetics with her most recent looks.
Snapped walking down the streets in the Bronx, the singer and actress sported an outfit that some netizens may recognise as peak 2010s ‘Indie Sleaze’.
All part of a costume for the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie a Deux, Gaga, who plays the notorious Harley Quinn, wore a dark emerald faux fur coat with black lapels and cuffs over a V-neck sweater and floral mini skirt. Adding to the boho-grunge look, she accessorised with black ruffled socks and mary-jane pumps, as well as a large leather-panelled tote bag and silver pendant necklace.
Just a few days prior, the star was spotted in another Tumblr-approved outfit on set. While she reached for the same coat and heels, she completed the throwback with a floral mini dress, cardigan and ripped harlequin-style tights.
Though Margot Robbie‘s iconic turn as Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad films saw a campy take on the character’s aesthetic, Joker‘s costume designer Arianne Phillips has taken a more sober approach to Gaga’s Quinn.
Our first look at the character’s wardrobe came last week when the cast was spotted filming in Manhatten. Amongst a sea of protesters, Gaga could be seen wearing a red satin blazer with tulle sleeves and a diamond print, a black-and-white corset top, a leather mini skirt, and the same torn tights tucked into heeled ankle boots.
Starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix as Joker, the actress and singer will play Dr Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist who becomes deeply attached to her patient, Arthur Fleck (Joker) and transforms into Harley Quinn.
The film, a sequel to the 2019 film Joker, is set to be released in October of 2024 and will involve some musical numbers by Gaga.
