Kylie Jenner's Love Affair With Galliano-Era Dior Continues

Maybe it’s nostalgia, or maybe it’s the endless hours we spent scrolling through the likes of Vestiaire Collective and The Real Real during lockdown—but vintage seems to be having a serious moment in 2020. Bella Hadid has almost exclusively worn second-hand pieces in the last 12 months, Kim Kardashian is regularly giving nods to vintage Mugler, and Dua Lipa’s recent Saturday Night Live performance was filled with archive pieces from the likes of Alaïa, Versace, and Valentino. Add to the mix Kylie Jenner, who is in the throes of a full-blown love affair with Noughties-era Dior.

First, there was the logo-printed baby pink ski suit she wore during a family trip to Lake Tahoe, which sleuth-like fashion fans quickly uncovered as being from John Galliano’s 2004 spring collection. Now, she’s hunted down a pair of oversized Dior sunglasses from the same era, the kind favoured by her sister, Kim Kardashian, and Kardashian’s former BFF Paris Hilton in the peak of mid-00s gauche-chic. Jenner paired the shades with a strapless taupe dress by Charlotte Knowles, and towering, sculptural sandals by Tom Ford.

Given many of us are still getting accustomed to the idea of spending the festive season home alone, Kylie’s commitment to unabashed holiday glamour, even from the comfort of her own living room, is admirable. Granted, she has a lot to celebrate this year—last week Forbes listed the 23-year-old as the highest-earning celebrity of 2020, taking home an outrageous $590 million USD. Much of that money came from Jenner’s selling off her majority share in the Kylie Cosmetics beauty empire to COTY back in January—a pretty good start to a pretty awful year.

Given that Christmas is fast approaching and that the Kardashians have a well-documented love for extravagant gift-giving, we’re betting a few more archive Galliano pieces will grace our Instagram feeds before the year is out.
