Last week I was bewildered to learn that of the five people I was having dinner with – including my own partner – that no one knew of Julia Fox. I was shocked, that even after dating Kanye West and becoming a viral sensation, that she was not a household name amongst a group of late 20-something year-olds. Nevertheless it seems that the actress is continuing her PR-fuelled tirade this week and sure enough, everyone will soon know her name.
Her latest stunt? Grocery shopping in her underwear. At the weekend she was papped wearing a matching black Alexander Wang underwear and bralette layered underneath a denim blazer, denim boots and accompanying tote bag.
The polarising appearance has the internet unsurprisingly divided. Sports agent David Gardner tweeted, “Oh sure, Julia Fox goes grocery shopping in her underwear, she’s a fashion icon. But when I do it, I’m “no longer welcome in Whole Foods”.”
Fox recently responded to the internet hysteria on Instagram stories writing, “I just think that if it’s socially acceptable at the beach it should be the am everywhere lol.”
The Uncut Gems star has become almost exclusively known for all denim, or, all latex looks in recent weeks. She recently channelled Lady Gaga’s Fame Monster era with the inclusion of sky-high platform boots while tippy toeing through the streets of New York City last month.
Fox’s renaissance arrives in 2022 after she very briefly dated (ahem excuse me, mused) Kanye West in January. The actress appeared alongside the rapper at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year in head-to-toe Schiaparelli before she walked the runway herself for LaQuan Smith at New York Fashion Week.
Oh, and did we mention she has become a bonafide beauty influencer. If you’re looking to emulate her iconic smudged black eye look (or in our case just simply curious at the makeup kit of a chaotic queen), look no further.
