Jennifer Lawrence has once again re-entered her ‘press tour wardrobe’ era.

For those readers amongst us uninitiated, the sartorial choices any Hollywood heavyweight chooses for their globe-trotting jaunts to promote their latest projects—which in Lawrence’s case is the risqué R-rated romantic comedy No Hard Feelings—require close inspection.  Unlike their everyday, off-duty street-style clothing, these ensembles are meticulously styled for every red carpet, press junket or interview and often subtly reference the film at hand.

Similar to the stars proliferating Sunset Boulevard, Lawrence must shine wherever she turns. And during Lawrence’s first stop on her No Hard Feelings promotional expedition, that’s exactly what she did.

After a masterclass in old-Hollywood glamour during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival—a lesson she taught wearing leather flip flops, no less—the star has opted for a style synonymous with the red carpet looks sported during the early days of her career when she wouldn’t show up at an event without being dressed in Raf Simons-era Dior.

On the ivory carpet in the UK, Lawrence provided a high-class Parisian fantasy on the UK step-and-repeat in a sheer new-season Dior silk gown spotted with sequinned embellishments.

The Maria Grazia Chuiri-designed dress, unveiled during Dior’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, offers a maturely vampish take on the sensual dressing mode that swept the runways and red carpets in 2022.

One of Lawrence’s most memorable red carpet appearances from that year was when she took to the debut of The Causeway during the Toronto International Film Festival in another slightly transparent Dior dress, her reprisal of this diaphanous silhouette is proof the look has staying power.

Though Dior’s FW23 collection was inspired by three prolific mid-Century French women who influenced Monsieur Dior—Catherine Dior, Juliette Gréco and Edith Piaf— Grazia Chiuri’s austere 1950s-inspired look takes on a different life here when worn by Lawrence.

Not only is Lawrence possibly hinting at the ending of her No Hard Feelings character Maddie, a strapped-for-cash Uber driver without a car whose get-rich-quick scheme involves dating a 19-year-old in exchange for cash, but the softly ruched look could also actually be a homage to her Dior black dress from the 2013 Met Gala.

Although Lawrence styled her black sequinned gown with tough leather opera gloves, another red carpet trend popularised in 2022, we have every hope that this aesthetic will be one Lawrence continues throughout the European leg of her press tour.

After all, this is the same actor who took to the streets of London in a Saville Row-esque deconstructed tailored set from The Row. Lawrence paired the Italian-made, open-back take of a suiting staple with an Elsa Peretti Sevillana crimson from Tiffany & Co and a pair of sunglasses from Khaite’s collaboration with Oliver Peoples.

Much like the red carpet, it’s clear that Lawrence will be ushering in a wave of European sensibility combined with her quintessential New York flair for this recent press tour. Indeed, nothing by hard outfits and no hard feelings here.
