Whether we are escaping the mundanity of our post-restricted lives or the messiness of our social media feeds, a woman’s night time routine has become a much-needed tool to disconnect and relax. In a new series “How I Wind Down…”, we speak to lot of different women about how they prepare for a restful evening.

Genevieve Gregson (née LaCaze-Gregson) is an Australian athletics competitor who is best-known for her incredible performance in the 3000 metre steeplechase. Gregson has had a challenging few years (an injury on the final hurdle dashed her hopes of taking home a medal at the 2016 Tokyo Olympics) but with a new pregnancy and renewed outlook on life, she’s feeling optimistic.

Here, Gregson shares her nighttime routine, her beauty rituals and what she’s most looking forward to as a new mum.

What are your days like right now?

My days evolve around my training. I am currently in my third trimester of pregnancy so my evening routine is more important than ever. It usually consists of a hot shower followed by a light face oil and a head-to-toe layer of Bio-Oil. My skin is being exposed to so much change right now so I never feel completely relaxed until I have moisturised and nourished my skin.

How do you wind down after a busy day?

I definitely front load my day so by 6 pm I can completely switch off from work and training. My favourite part of my day would be preparing dinner with my husband and watching a series together.

How do you decorate your space to facilitate a good night’s sleep?

Our bedroom is decorated with neutral colours that make me feel calm and it always feels clean. I am a freak when it comes to cleanliness so having our space tidy with a light breeze from open windows or a ceiling fan is our go-to for the perfect night’s sleep.

What time do you generally go to sleep?

I could go to bed at any hour after 7 pm but due to dinner and watching a show with my husband it tends to always fall between 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm.

Any pre bed rituals you can share?

During my pregnancy I haven’t had to change by-pre bed rituals too much, but I have changed my approach when it comes to winding down. For example, now I tend to use my Bio-Oil in specific areas like my tummy and around my hips. And although there is only a subtle smell of botanicals, the formulation of 100% plant oils helps to make me feel relaxed. I also use a lip balm before bed.

So, basically, my whole body is locked up in moisture whilst I get my beauty sleep!

Do you plan the next day’s look before you go to sleep?

Yes, always! I have everything laid out beside my bed before I go to sleep. My go-to outfits are ALWAYS activewear as I train first thing in the morning so it’s spandex shorts, a lightweight shirt or singlet, and a cute sports bra.
