Next to Gianni’s safety pins and gilt Medusa heads, the palm print is one of Versace’s most iconic properties. First made (very) famous by J.Lo at the 2000 Grammys (honestly, who can forget that?), then made famous (again) last year at Milan Fashion Week when a seemingly ageless Jennifer Lopez reprised the dress (if we can call it that) to close Versace’s Spring/Summer 2020 show, the exuberant tropical print has been nothing short of fashion folklore. Off the back of Lopez’s palm-clad booty, Versace rehashed the archival print for the collection, with everything from slip dresses to sneakers rendered in the legendary print.
Now British songstress Dua Lipa has a caught a case of Versace jungle fever. But instead of a plunging gown, Lipa takes her Versace palms in lycra form. She wore the brand’s tropical jacquard-trimmed stretch leggings with a hot pink ribbed crop top and multi-coloured beaded necklace in her London home (we’re thinking boyfriend and iso-buddy Anwar Hadid took the shot).
After a holiday to St. Lucia with Hadid, or what she called “island isolation”, Lipa sported a fresh holiday glow, looking as bronzed as ever. Cropped at the leg and topped with a Greca / Medusa waistband, Dua Lipa’s leggings are definitely a far cry from the classic blacks we’ve been touting around the house during quarantine, and a bonafide mood-booster.
So in the spirit of all-out Italianate glamour, why not pair the palm print legging (which are now on sale at Net-a-Porter!) with a Barbie-pink bikini top with the house’s moniker in matching neon green blasted across its front – because why not? Remember, when wearing Versace: don’t do things in halves.
