Irrespective of what city you find yourself in during their fashion week, you can always count on the front rows and streets to be a masterful display of the local uniform. Indeed, across the ‘big four’ and bourgeoning smaller weeks, the avenues and alleys are often a more authentic display of the preferred silhouettes. However, if we were to grade these weeks from least to most inspiring, Copenhagen Fashion Week would pass with flying colours.

Unlike other cities where the displays on the street can often feel like a replica of the runway, which is mostly due to a ‘full look’ policy adhered to by attendees, Copenhagen’s locals deviated from the norm. Rather than complete head-to-toe designer ensembles, these sartorially savvy Copenhagen cool-girls mix and meld prints, fabrics and codes with abandon for their street style looks.

Texture and colour are two of the most important elements in the wardrobes of the Scandi style set. The Spring/Summer 2024 season highlighted these savants’ penchant for playfulness. Classic wardrobe fundamentals like denim, tailoring, shirting and outerwear are saturated in high-octane hues or unexpected prints, leading to a smorgasbord—if we’re to borrow this term from the nearby Swedes—of stylistic modes nestled with hidden details.

Below, GRAZIA brings you the definitive guide to the biggest fashion trends sported by the street style crowd during the SS24 season of Copenhagen Fashion Week.

In Bloom

Like the ultimate perennial style icon, Carrie Bradshaw, Copenhagen has an affinity for oversized rosettes. While this trend was prolific on the runways, the fabric floral motif certainly bloomed in abundance on the streets.

From off-cut fabric woven into oversized chokers, floral chiffon tulle worn as belts to create dimension to boxy shapes, or already incorporated into ready-to-wear pieces, this trend was hard to miss.

The rosette trend is so synonymous with the concurrent Copenhagen style that I picked up several rosettes of my own from local labels Saks Potts, Cora Edition and Pico.

The Clash

While a legion of fusion micro aesthetics has bubbled up from #fashiontok, see: ‘Blokette‘ or ‘Coastal Cowgirl’, the streets of Copenhagen have always been marked by an array of clashing trends. This means that Copenhageners, or “Københavner” if you’re local, have forged a style so broad and undefinable it’s become the uniform for the city.

These great contrasts of styles have resulted in the city becoming a melting pot of references. It’s often the case that the more diverse or eclectic your ensemble is, the more stylish you are because each look is underpinned by an innate sense of personal style and individualism.

Sadly, that’s something you can’t buy, but it is something you can harness. A great starting point is taking references from the below outfits. The lesson? Wear something that feels right to you and with confidence. All the better if it feels slightly undone and unpolished, no one’s life is ever perfectly squeaky clean, and we shouldn’t expect our clothes to be either.

Not So Saville Row

Tailoring has once again come to the forefront of the cultural zeitgeist after decades of focus on sensual dressing and leisurewear. In Copenhagen, this is no different, however how tailored staples are explored is anything but conventional. As the name suggests, these suiting silhouettes are anything but Saville Row-approved.

Black fabrications are eschewed in favourite of navy, grey or white pinstripes. Or better yet, a pastel powdered suit you can colour block with a contrasting undershirt. If pieces are slim fitting, wearers will often soften the look with the addition of a sports sneaker. If the look is oversized, Scandi girls will lean into the look with even more layers.
