Bye bye power suit, hello powder suit. Yes, the mighty power suit of old, with its razor-sharp shoulders and kick-ass hemline, has had a rather sweet update as traditional tailoring takes on a decidedly delicate palette in fresh gelato hues.

There’s been boxy lemon blazers, peppermint pants and Jello-O jackets. Sky blue strides and candy coats. It’s as if, all of sudden, the style set has been struck with a serious sweet tooth. Bella Hadid is in strawberry suits (and midriff aplenty), Romee Strijd is taking her blazers lilac and large, Zendaya is doing straight up seafoam, while bloggers Emili Sindlev and Evangelie Smyrniotaki are tangerine queens in creamy dreamy pastel tailoring. It’s enough to make you sick. Lovesick. And like any sugar rush, it’s also highly addictive.

To get your fix, the options are seemingly endless. There’s New York label Tibi, who are on such a sugar high they cut their covetable oversized twill blazer in both lemon and strawberry (yum!). Pair with their matching twill trouser or make your suit modern and replace with the designer’s Bermuda short of the same saccharine hue.

Local brand C/MEO Collective offer a fresh and very flattering mint blazer with a little volume at the hip, while Ukrainian-born, London-based designer Natasha Zinko reinvents the pow-der suit with bold femininity, replacing slacks with an asymmetrical fitted skirt to match her delicious candy pink and caramel blazer. Then it’s Miami Vice meets Venice, as Attico’s glamour girls Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini revisit an ’80s Palm Beach with a butterfly-waisted tapered trouser in mint. Or if you prefer your green pant with a little flair, Derek Lam’s playful flares in pistachio crepe are just the thing to give you that extra kick.

But perhaps most exciting is House of Holland’s lilac blazer, which sits within a collection of suits designed in shades that make up the colours of the rainbow and are dedicated to organisations supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

And to complete the look, a chunky Jerry Seinfeld sneaker in white. Or, if you’re feeling particularly brave, colour block down to your toes and embrace gelato feet, too. Acne Studio’s Manhattan Sneaker in lilac or lemon will do the trick.

Like a stylish kid in a candy store, we’ve curated soft-serve suiting that looks as good as we think it would taste. Be it a stellar sale piece on Net-a-Porter or a vintage find on Vestiaire Collective, choose either one flavour with easy coordinates or mix ‘n’ match to your heart’s content (for the record, lilac and green are a fashionable dream).

Ah, fashion really is the sweetest thing.
