In keeping with his now famous advertising shoots with the Kardashian-Jenner sisters and Gerber siblings, Calvin Klein design boss Raf Simons has returned to the same ‘western barn’ set and photographer for the 205W39NYC Pre-fall 2018 campaign.
What makes this shoot different though is the use of models – albeit famous international ones – rather than AAA-list celebrities to showcase the clothes, meaning his designs are the central focus of the pics by iconic minimalist photographer Willy Vanderperre.
According to Simons, the collection is his vision of a New Americana, with one denim piece featuring a reimagined version of the US flag’s stars and stripes. There are sleek satin slip dresses, folded midi-skirts, oversized knits, classic tartans, classic suiting elements, more denim and even a lambswool-lined military parka.
Simons’ much-lauded collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation carries on too, with the artist’s iconic florals and black-and-white American flag imagery finding their way onto printed silk pieces.
Alongside Australian model Julia Nobis we also see wavy-haired Argentinian Mica Argañaraz, Belgian male model Alec Pollentier, and Californian-Mexican newcomer Ernesto Cervantes. Edgy as the talent is though, it’s hard to see past these Warhol-print knee-high boots – Andy probably would have joined us in the store queue.
