Anya Taylor-Joy has long been heralded for her conceptual approach to dressing, with every public appearance a display of her avant-garde, masculine-meets-feminine style.
Her recently-revealed New Orleans nuptials to musician Malcolm McRae shone a spotlight on her eclectic taste, with her custom beige tulle Dior wedding gown embroidered with the newlywed’s astrological signs and the pair feasting on anatomical heart cakes à la Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in The Interview With The Vampire. But outside the aisle, Taylor-Joy and McRae have silently proposed revising the rules surrounding complementary couple dressing.
For the uninitiated, the collective backlash surrounding Hailey and Justin Bieber’s antithesis style has resulted in a plethora of new celebrity couples going to great lengths to ensure their respective off-duty styles are complimentary. While in New York, Taylor-Joy and McRae both wore their version of a two-piece set to attend the NBA playoffs at Madison Square Garden. For Taylor-Joy, this involved a moto-approved body-conscious leather jacket and vampy matching trousers that featured harness detailing and a tie motif that ran up her leg. (Very Furisoa, might we add). McRae, on the other hand, took cues from Phil Jackon (of Chicago Bulls, fame) and his 80s courtside looks with a blue navy suit and circular tie.
