Louis-Vuitton-Zendaya-Campaign

Things we didn’t have on our 2023 bingo card: Zendaya adding Louis Vuitton to her list of impressive brand ambassadorships, Law Roach retiring from celebrity styling and the LVMH crown jewel itself being dragged into the drama.

But nevertheless, here we are! How do we all feel about it?

When we say it, we are referring to Zendaya’s first official campaign as a certified Louis Vuitton girl, of course.

Joining the likes of, well, almost everyone in Hollywood, Zendaya secured the (Cappucine) bag and served us a healthy dollop of dreamy, sun-kissed Côte d’Azur realness.

Styled by Roach — don’t get it twisted now, the Chicago-born image architect did warn us that he wasn’t going anywhere —and shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Zendaya certainly breathed new life into the maison’s iconic advertisements.

In the accompanying video, Zendaya takes over a mid-century modern villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. For all its French charm, the locale is not too dissimilar from the modernist penthouses dotted along the hillside of Los Angeles, clearly emphasizing the synergy between Zendaya’s Californian roots and Louis Vuitton’s rich Parisian heritage.

Zendaya didn’t wear a piece from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, but instead modeled in custom creations.

Considering this show sent shockwaves around the world because of Zendaya’s very attendance an that video of Law Roach appearing to be snubbed and shoved into a third-row seat (which was debunked by the stylist himself, btw), we’re thrilled to see all parties moving forward from this moment.

A top of the French Riviera, Zendaya and her dancing partner — a series of Capucines — sashay around the house to Neil Diamond’s “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon,” A woman indeed — a bona fide LV girlie in her element.

The montage, despite all its glamour, harks back to the second season scene from Euphoria of Rue dancing around her house to Tony Bennet’s “Call Me Irresponsible.”

We wonder if Zendaya and Louis Vuitton are living out an alternate reality where Rue rode her suitcase full of cash straight to the LAX and jumped on a one-way flight to Charles de Gaulle?

Either way, it’s a luxe affair, but not one that has got away scot-free. Considering Zendaya’s partnership with Louis Vuitton was rumored to have forced Roach into early retirement, her first official campaign for the French house was always going to be a moment that sent the cultural zeitgeist spiraling.

But if this perfectly pleasant campaign was what all the fuss was over, we’re going to need a hand-written apology from every social media user who came for Law, Zendaya and LV.

If anything, the controversy surrounding this campaign should be that it didn’t feature Zendaya’s iconic two-piece tiger print suit, a.k.a the first custom Louis Vuitton look she ever wore.

This campaign was a long time coming, and the end result is another feather in Zendaya’s proverbial hat.
