We can definitely say Willow Smith gets it from her mama. The 20-year-old rising rock star paid homage to Jada Pinkett-Smith during their Mother’s Day special episode of Red Table Talk. The “Transparent Soul” singer got Pinkett-Smith’s nu-metal band Wicked Wisdom back together. On Wednesday’s episode, Smith, who’s currently working on a punk album of her own, explained how she’s always been inspired by the time she spent on tour with her mom as a kid. “Every night, I wanted to ride on the security guard’s shoulders and watch her perform,” she says. “She was a rock star, and I was living for Wicked Wisdom. I felt like it was only right for me to pay homage to a time in her life because she showed me what woman-ing up really is about, so for Mother’s Day, I’m about to reunite with some of my mom’s old band members to do one of my favorite songs by my mom, which is called ‘Bleed All Over Me.’”

Smith performed alongside original band member, Pocket Honore, in front of Pinkett-Smith and her “Grammy” Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “When I was, I wanna say about 3 or 4, I went on tour with my mom and her band Wicked Wisdom. Wicked Wisdom was lit. This is the music that I grew up around. My mother was Superwoman, she was a rock star, warrior and nurturer all in one. So unapologetically badass,” Smith says during the Red Table Talk episode. “She was a rock star, and I was living for Wicked Wisdom.”
Smith added that she hoped to make Pinkett-Smith feel “a tiny little bit of the gratitude and the love you have given me my entire life and continue to give me.” Pinkett-Smith shared the video on Instagram, writing, “My heart burst in a thousand different ways having my daughter honor me in this way. I love you Willow.” The heartfelt performance ended with an emotional embrace between Smith and Pinkett-Smith. Viewers were not only captivated by the beautiful mother-daughter moment but were blown away by how easily Smith commanded the stage. We’re excited to see Smith take this genre by storm.
