Troye Sivan, UNIQLO

Sandwiched between Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” and HAIM’s “Gasoline” on my music playlist is Troye Sivan’s remix of “Easy” with pop-country star Kacey Musgraves. It’s become one of my go-to 80s-esque dance-floor anthems (er, shower anthems?) amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and I know I’m not alone. The YouTube video has amassed 6 million views and counting, and it’s been streamed over 17 million times on Spotify. Clearly, this is one of the songs we’ve turned to as we desperately crave a night out of our urban dwellings, drinking vodka sodas instead of vino.

I digress with the fast facts, but the 25-year-old South African native is on the tip of everybody’s tongue, loved widely for his unquestionable artistry, poetic song lyrics, and his undeniable role as a gay icon. These reasons, among many others, are why fans like myself are celebrating his upcoming T-shirt collaboration with Uniqlo. The six-piece line incorporates photo prints using mixed media and logos created by Sivan and his creative team. Sivan’s sister, Sage Mellet, photographed the cool and casual campaign, with a few selfies from the singer himself.

Sivan’s no stranger to a fashion campaign, especially having represented Cartier in celebration of the House’s Pasha de Cartier watch in June 2020. The black-and-white campaign was photographed by Craig McDean, with the intent of celebrating unique creatives who challenge the status quo. “These new Pasha ambassadors owe their success to their differences, creativity, connection, multidisciplinary talents, and generosity,” Arnaud Carrez, International Marketing and Communications Director of Cartier International said in a statement at the time of the campaign’s launch.

In 2019, he starred in Calvin Klein’s limited-edition CK50 collection campaign, dreamed up for the American fashion house’s 50th anniversary. That same year, he also participated in the label’s Spring-Summer 2019 #MYCALVINS “I Speak My Truth” campaign.

Sivan was also the face of the Valentino menswear Spring-Summer 2018 campaign, starring in print and video, under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli.
