The hills are alive with the sound of music — and by hills, we absolutely are talking about New York City’s rooftop concert series featuring some of the city’s most in-demand musicals in an intimate, outdoor setting. Per Time Out New York, “hosted by TodayTix, the aptly named Rooftop Concert Series will take over the rooftop of downtown shopping mall Showfields at 11 Bond Street starting Friday, April 2. The first performance will feature Lauren Patten, Lauren Patten who originated the role of Jo in the new Alanis Morissette musical, Jagged Little Pill, on Broadway before COVID-19 forced all Broadway shows to shut down indefinitely.”

Last March, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League, announced all Broadway performances would be canceled as a COVID-19 precaution. “Our top priority has been and will continue to be the health and well-being of Broadway theatergoers and the thousands of people who work in the theater industry every day, including actors, musicians, stagehands, ushers and many other dedicated professionals,” said St. Martin last year. “Broadway has the power to inspire, enrich and entertain, and together we are committed to making that vital spirit a reality. Once our stages are lit again, we will welcome fans back with open arms so that they can continue to experience the joy, heart and goodwill that our shows so passionately express every night.”

“With the current regulations the city has set in place, we feel we can finally re-enter the live-events space successfully, ensuring that all attending and involved parties can celebrate the magic of live entertainment safely,” said Tony Marion, the executive producer of TodayTix Presents, in an official press release announcing the news. “We are thrilled to have such a magnificent lineup of working artists to bring us back to that magic just over a year after the pandemic changed our lives forever.”

Here’s how this works: Tickets are $40 and will be sold in “pods” of two or four people in order to follow social distancing guidelines. Guests also must wear masks and will have their temperature checked. All shows start at 6:30 p.m. EST. Here’s the official line-up: April 2: Lauren Patten (Jagged Little Pill), April 3: Derek Klena (Jagged Little Pill), April 16: Ana Villafañe (On Your Feet!), and April 17: Bradley Gibson (The Lion King).
