Gwyneth Paltrow, Queen of Wellness, has today revealed she had fallen victim to COVID-19 “early on.” Posting to her health and beauty blog, Goop, the actress revealed she still suffers from long-tail fatigue and brain fog.
“In January, I had some tests done that showed really high levels of inflammation in my body,” Paltrow explained on her blog. “So I turned to one of the smartest experts I know in this space, the functional medicine practitioner, Dr. Will Cole. After he saw all my labs, he explained that this was a case where the road to healing was going to be longer than usual.”
To combat the long-term side effects, Paltrow is embarking on a more unorthodox method of treatment which involves a “flexible” plant-based, keto diet and fasting until 11 am. Sounds straightforward enough? Of course, the 48-year-old is also cutting out sugar and alcohol in a bid to fight inflammation. It follows the same vein as her 5-day detox plan, but is meant to be followed far longer.
According to Business Insider, there is little research to back up the validity of these strategies.
Professor Greg Dore – a researcher of long-term COVID-19 side effects in Australia – told Channel 9 in September that no matter how young or healthy you are, you can be prone to the same lingering aftermath.
“Most people are describing ongoing fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance … chest heaviness, some difficulty breathing, and also sort of a brain fog or some issues around attention concentration.
“People that weren’t hospitalized can still have problems breathing. Even for young people infected, the significant post-COVID illnesses we’re seeing should be a bit of a wake up.”
Paltrow joins the (celebrity) likes of Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Grimes and Andy Murray who have been diagnosed with the respiratory disease.
