We know that Jen Atkin is the hair stylist extraordinaire behind many enviable celebrity manes: Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Chrissy Tiegen among them.
And while we can’t have her exact skillset, we can copy some of the infamous Jen Atkin techniques — especially when she shares them via social media.

Right now, TikTok is loosing its mind over her “indie sleaze” wave tutorial, using none other than the humble triple barrel tong. The style, characterized by loose, imperfect, almost-but-not-quite waves is a favorite among clientele like Kendall and Hailey, who’s preference is to look incredibly beautiful but in an ‘I woke up like tis’ kind of way (which, for the most part they probably did).

Atkin starts with dry hair, pulls it into sections and using her own Mane Addicts waver, begins by clamping on low heat an inch or two away from the roots. She holds it for a few seconds, and then continues down the rest of the hair. But the trick is to not hold it on the hair for too long towards the ends, so that the hair remains relatively smooth and undone, not perfect/wide/poofy. She also separates the pieces and tugs on them while they’re still warm, giving it an even more believable, soft finish. The end result is hair that’s styled but super natural, undone and tousled (basically the exact kind of texture we’ve been seeing on It girls like Kendall and Hailey as of late).
@jenatkinhair everyone asked for a slower tutorial so here we go!!!! waver and sectioning clips by @mane_____ #loosewaves #wavetutorial #wavyhairtutorial #indiesleaze #hairtok #mermaidwaves #everydayhairstyle
