In the wake of the whirlwind White Lotus season 2 finale, viewers are still celebrating the triumph of Mia and Lucia, dissecting Portia’s questionable attire, mourning that shocking death, and trying to wrap their heads around the dysfunctional foursome between married couples Harper and Ethan, and Cameron and Daphne.

Following the finale, actress Meghann Fahy (who played Daphne) weighed in on what she thinks happened between her character and Ethan (Will Sharpe) when they ventured to a secluded beach together. “I definitely think something happened,” she told Variety. “I don’t know what exactly happened, but I do know that it was something. Honestly, in that moment, I think Daphne just saw this broken man and wanted to do something to make him feel more empowered in her own strange way.”

After Ethan reveals his theory to Daphne that Harper and Cameron may have had sex during their holiday star at The White Lotus, Daphne looks wounded, if only for a split second — before switching to a calm demeanor. “I mean, we never really know what goes on in people’s minds and what they do, right?” she tells Ethan. “There’s still this part that’s a mystery. You don’t have to know everything to love someone.”

“I’m a mystery to myself, honestly, I surprise myself all the time. I think you just… do whatever you have to do not to feel like a victim of life,” she says before inviting Ethan to walk across Isola Bella — a small, secluded island off the coast. Exchanging heavy looks and loaded glances across their stroll, we’re left wondering if Ethan and Daphne have sex on their trip, although it’s certainly implied.

Fahy told the outlet, “I really don’t think that she led him there to get back at Cameron or Harper. Someone said something really interesting the other day, which was like, do you think that part of Daphne’s sadness comes from her betrayal from Harper? I was like totally. I think she’s been through this with Cameron who knows how many times, but I think she really thought that Harper was maybe her friend or wanted her to be.”

The Bold Type alum added, “She has that vulnerable moment in Episode 3 where they’re in Noto, and she talks about how she has a hard time keeping female friends and stuff. So, I do think that was part of the experience of it but yeah, I don’t know that I can say exactly what happened, but I think definitely something sexual for sure.”
