If Emily In Paris has been our pandemic guilty pleasure, then The Undoing is our full blown public obsession.
Based on the 2014 novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the mysterious miniseries that premiered on HBO last month is written and produced by David E. Kelley and directed by Susanne Bier.
The binge-worthy, psychological thriller stars Nicole Kidman as Grace Fraser, a successful psychotherapist in New York City on the eve of publishing her first book. She seems to have it all with a devoted husband and a young son who attends an elite private school in Manhattan. Overnight, her life begins to unravel following a violent death, a missing husband and a chain of terrible revelations. Forced to cope with a spreading and very public disaster and as a result, Grace must dismantle one life to create a new one for her child and herself.
The gripping drama, which also stars Hugh Grant, Édgar Ramírez, Noah Jupe and Lily Rabe, is Kidman’s second HBO miniseries as both leading actress and producer, following Big Little Lies. Very much like her character on BLL, Kidman’s wardrobe is pivotal in defining who Grace is. From the very first episode where we spotted her wearing a Givenchy metallic pleated silk-blend gown, we were captivated by her character’s ultra refined sense of style.
Particularly, it is Grace’s outerwear choices that had us in envy. Her fabulous collection of coats includes a number of those by Max Mara including a black and grey plaid coat, a long teal wool trench and plushy deep red number that tied at the waist. Other eye-catching designer styles include her signature wine-colored 3.1 Phillip Lim tailored belted coat and gorgeous embroidered Etro trench. Grace is also seen in an embroidered cape and a long green heavy textured fabric coat, both of which were made specifically for the show by costume designer Signe Sejilund.
Of course, the pieces underneath were equally chic with standouts such as Baum Und Pferdgarten faux leather pencil skirt, Chloé wool and silk turtleneck sweater, Roksanda fluted crepe midi dress and Reiss “Della” blouse.
The Undoing series finale airs this Sunday, November 29 on HBO, which just so happens to coincide with the official kick of holiday shopping season over weekend. Channel your own inner Grace and shop seven luxury coats below. No murder stress required.
