Did you know there’s a beverage as energizing as coffee but with added detoxifying benefits? Introducing cereal coffee. Highlighted by Vogue, this drink doesn’t stray too far from traditional coffee in terms of taste; however, it boasts the added advantage of causing neither bloating nor water retention, unlike caffeine.

As explained by Marina López, director of the Las Caldas by Blau Hotels thermal complex in Spain, to our colleagues, “In addition to having a pleasant taste and aroma, cereal coffee provides as much energy as regular coffee but without the stimulating effect. It also aids in achieving maximum well-being by improving the digestive process,” she assures.

Cereal Coffee: The Slimming Coffee Alternative

Nutritionists seem to agree, asserting that this beverage is indeed much better to incorporate into a daily regimen than coffee. “These drinks are made from grains such as barley, malt, and rye, and from plants like chicory or figs,” reminds Vogue’s psychonutritionist Itziar Digón, emphasizing the high fiber content in this satiating elixir. This detail is far from trivial as it contributes to better digestion and intestinal function:

“Dietary fibers nourish the bacteria in the intestines and ensure the right balance of the gut microbiota, preventing inflammatory diseases,” continues the expert.

Contrary to what its name might suggest, cereal coffee is completely caffeine-free, which helps reduce bloating and prevent water retention. “Caffeine is a double-edged sword: on one hand, it has a diuretic effect, as it acts directly on the bladder muscles, but on the other, it has a dehydrating effect and can, therefore, increase the body’s fluid content. Worse still, caffeine stimulates the release of the stress hormone cortisol, which also increases inflammation and water retention. Reducing its consumption is therefore an effective way to combat abdominal bloating,” clarifies Digón.

Cereal coffee is available as an instant powder, you can dissolve it in hot water or milk (preferably plant-based). “It doesn’t need to be made from just one type of grain; what’s important is that it’s 100% organic and doesn’t contain other additives. In other words, its composition should be as natural as possible,” recommends the nutritionist.
