Rihanna in Paris May 2019

When was the last time you paired your sweatpants with heels, if ever? And, if not, what’s stopping you? On Thursday, March 11, Rihanna was photographed strutting into a frequent dinner spot, Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California. The cozy-chic look was all sorts of epic, namely because she paired green sweatpants from the Brain Dead Dreams SS21 collection with none other than crystal-embellished heels designed by footwear designer Amina Muaddi.

As for the rest of the outfit, the Fenty Beauty founder went hard with layers. She wore a black and white cropped camisole underneath a green and white striped cardigan. To round out the buzzworthy street-style moment, she slipped on a brown shearling jacket accessorized with retro square sunglasses, statement green rings, a protective face mask, and a top-handle green Goyard bag.

Not sure about you, but we stared at this look for many minutes on end, and our final verdict goes as follows: if anyone can pull off sweatpants and pumps, it’s Rihanna. That said, this isn’t her first time sporting the look. She’s kind of a pro at the pairing at this point, having rocked it for nearly a decade (evidenced in the photo from 2012, below). Not that it was ever in question, but it’s safe to say the Love On The Brain star remains at the top of our list for street style icons.

Rihanna is seen at the Heathrow Airport on September 27, 2012 in London, United Kingdom.

If you’re hesitant to give the trend a try, keep in mind that it’s entirely possible to pull off, nor is it that uncommon among celebrities. Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Hailey Bieber, and Selena Gomez are no strangers to the cool-girl trend.
