After a weekend of celebrations following the 2020 Presidential Election verdict, it’s time to get back to business. The first item on our to-do list? Purchase a white blazer inspired by Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris’ suffragette pantsuit.
On Saturday, November 7, the former California senator delivered a victory speech at Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware. All eyes were on Harris as she took the stage to the tune of “Work That” by Mary J Blige. Chills and goosebumps ensued.
For the historical moment, Harris wore a white suffragette suit from Carolina Herrera’s Resort 2021 collection. Underneath her blazer, she donned the Tory Burch Silk Satin Bow Blouse. She accessorized with an American flag pin, pearl earrings, and bracelets.

“While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” Harris tells viewers during her speech. “Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities and to the children of our country regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: Dream with ambition, lead with conviction and see yourselves in a way that others may not simply because they’ve never seen it before. But know that we will applaud you every step of the way.”
White is the color of the women’s suffragette movement, and it has been since the early 90s. Ever since women earned the right to vote via the ratification of the 19th amendment in 1920, female politicians have continued wearing it to make a symbolic statement defending women’s rights.
With that said, it’s time to celebrate Harris’s historical moment becoming the first woman, the first Black American, and the first Asian American Vice President. One way we’re doing so is by proudly wearing white after Labor Day as a nod to the suffragettes who helped women earn the right to vote.
