Claudia Schiffer is one of the most fabulous supermodels of our era. Discovered in a German nightclub when she was 17, the blonde beauty went on to dominate the fashion industry alongside a handful of other models famous for walking the world’s most important runways and starring on magazine covers and major fashion and beauty campaigns. These 90s supermodels became known in the industry and around the nation as “The Big Five.”
Throughout her career, Schiffer worked with Chanel, Versace, Balmain, and Valentino — to name a few. As a 50-year-old today, the model continues to celebrate the industry, especially the special relationships she’s developed because of it. Take one of her latest Instagram posts, for example: On Thursday. November 12, the German native reposted an Instagram photo from Italian fashion designer and founder of his namesake fashion house, Valentino Garavani. “One of my favorite things about fashion is the friendships I have made,” says Schiffer in the accompanying caption. “This feels like it was only yesterday.”
In the throwback image, Schiffer walks the Valentino spring/summer 1995 show during Paris Fashion Week, channeling beauty and style icon Marilyn Monroe with her glam. In the iconic pic, Schiffer wears a short white romper decorated with gemstones at the waistline. Her hair is styled in bouncy ringlets and held back at the top with a sparkly hair brooch. For makeup, she embraced a bronze complexion and statement-making red lipstick.

“Mr. Valentino has had many muses over the course of his long career, and one of his most cherished favorites was Claudia Schiffer,” says Garavani in another Instagram post praising Schiffer. “The German übermodel made umpteen memorable appearances on the Valentino runway, starred in one of the house’s most iconic ad campaigns La Dolce Vita, as seen here, and has been at Mr. Valentino’s side for many key events.”
