11/5/1952-London, England: Queen Elizabeth II, 26 years young, is
radiantly happy here as she waves and smiles in acknowledgement of
the cheers of the crowd as she drove in the state coach to the
House of Lords yesterday. History was made as the young queen
appeared in the House of Lords to open the First Parliament of her
reign. Her address, prepared by the government, indicated that
Britain will swing back to Capitalism in 1953 by denationalizing
the steel and trucking industries.
Britain’s longest-serving monarch,
Queen Elizabeth II has died in Balmoral, Scotland. She was 96.
Buckingham Palace shared the news that she had passed peacefully
this morning, and the world is in mourning.
Elizabeth became queen in 1952, following the sudden death of
her father. In her 70-year rule she was the first monarch to step
foot in Australia, and proceeded to visit the country on 15
occasions. She had four children, including her successor King
Charles III, eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Her
husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away last year at
age 99.
There is no doubting The Queen lived a full life, which can be
remembered now in pictures.
