Today the fashion world came together following the last day of Paris Couture Week to view the final collection of one of the last renowned designers from the Golden Age of couture, Pierre Cardin. Initially scheduled for December 29, 2021, exactly a year after the death of the Parisian couturier, the label’s new creative director, Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin, Pierre’s grandson, is now bringing the collection to the world.
Cardin’s shows were known for their fantastic and often out-of-the-box settings, including staged through the dunes of the Gobi Desert, Great Wall of China, and his retro-futuristic bubble Palais Bulles on the French Riviera. So naturally, when materializing a venue, the brand’s team looked for somewhere nontraditional that paid tribute to Cardin’s legacy. The result? The luxury house brought editors, influencers, and friends of the brand to a literal runway: the tarmac of Le Bourget airport just north of Paris.
Titled “Cosmpocorps3022” (a term coined to describe Cardin’s designs in the ’60s) the show included pieces from the couturier’s final collection, as well as new designs produced by the brand’s current team, showcasing what is to be expected for the future of Pierre Cardin. The 45-minute show brought new life to the label while also paying homage and incorporating the legendary designer’s signature codes that the eponymous label is cherished for today.
Ahead of his time, Cardin was often referred to as the “father of futuristic fashion,” and now, the future has almost finally caught up with his space-age designs. Pierre Cardin, the brand, has never made more sense than it does today.
