Paris Fashion Week street style looks a little — uh, well… a lot — different from years past due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But that’s not stopping supermodels, celebs, and fashion fanatics from stepping out with photo-ready looks complete with equally stylish face masks.
This year’s events are taking place from Wednesday, September 28, through Tuesday, October 6. Similar to proceedings in New York and Milan, there aren’t as many physical shows this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. Instead, it’s a mix of virtual presentations, and a handful of IRL shows practicing social distancing and mask-wearing.
The show must go on in-person for luxury labels like Louis Vuitton, Chloé, and Isabel Marant. The shows’ limited guest attendees are using their face masks as extensions of their personal style to protect themselves amid the virus outbreak. From classic blue surgical masks to luxury protective gear, there’s no doubt that the mask has become a 2020 fashion accessory in its own right.
This year’s restrictions obviously didn’t stop fashion lovers from bringing their A-game. We’ve seen statement-making wide-leg culottes, timeless trenches, and creative monochrome moments worthy of the runway. These looks have provided us with a semblance of normalcy and the inspiration to dress up again — or, at least, dress out of our comfy-as-hell lounge clothes.
But that’s not to say that every look was over-the-top cool; that really hasn’t been the case this season. Instead, the street style has felt more real than ever, like attendees actually pulled items straight out of their closets instead of planning out their wardrobe choices months in advance, per usual.
