The Oscars are known as Hollywood’s biggest night, famous for closing out awards season with unforgettable red carpet fashion moments. Ahead of the 93rd annual awards ceremony, happening in-person on Sunday, April 25, we’re prepping by taking a comprehensive look back through the Academy Awards photo archives. Truthfully, when was the last time you awed over Cher’s sequined skin-baring two-piece ensemble from the 1986 ceremony or Björk’s swan-inspired mini dress from 2001? It’s time to re-live these moments and more because the Oscars red carpet undeniably has seen it all.

There’s so much more where that came from. Céline Dion’s 1999 Oscars look majorly turned heads. The “My Heart Will Go On” singer donned a white John Galliano suit for Dior, which she iconically wore backward for her red carpet debut. Three years later, Halle Berry wore an embroidered sheer Elie Saab gown to the 2002 Academy Awards, where she became the first, and still only, Black woman to receive Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball. Fast forward to 2019, and Billy Porter arrived in a custom Christian Siriano velvet tuxedo gown. Solidifying his status as the gender-bending fashion icon.

Below, GRAZIA takes a trip through the photo archives to spotlight 13 of the most memorable red carpet fashion moments from year’s past.
