After a bombshell interview from Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis’ former nanny dropped this week, the internet has been buzzing about a special salad dressing recipe Wilde allegedly made for Styles. On Tuesday evening, the actress seemingly revealed her secret — and the internet still can’t get enough.
In an Instagram Story, Wilde posted an excerpt from Nora Ephron’s 1983 autobiographical novel Heartburn. In a passage on the page it read, “Mix 2 tablespoons Grey Poupon mustard with 2 tablespoons good red wine vinegar. Then, whisking constantly with a fork, slowly add 6 tablespoons olive oil, until the vinaigrette is thick and creamy; this makes a very strong vinaigrette that’s perfect for salad greens like arugula and watercress and endive.”
Eagle-eyed onlookers have pointed out that the posted recipe closely resembles one Wilde previously shared with the Food Network. “For the salad and vinaigrette, add the red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, honey, salt, and garlic to a small bowl and mix to combine. In a slow steady stream, add 2 to 4 tablespoons olive oil, stirring as you go to emulsify,” read Wilde’s instructions. “To serve, add the greens to a bowl and toss with the vinaigrette. Top with the kalamata olives, feta, and cucumber.”
The Instagram Story may have been a bit more emotionally charged than a simple salad dressing. Within the same page of the book, Ephron wrote: “Because if I tell you the story, I can make you laugh, and I would rather have you laugh at me than feel sorry for me. Because if I tell the story, it doesn’t hurt as much. Because if I tell the story, I can get on with it.”
Wilde’s breakup with her partner of nine years has been associated with an unprecedented amount of gossip, and has intertwined with the release of her film Don’t Worry Darling. Wilde and her costar Harry Styles sparked romance rumors shortly after filming began, leading the public to suspect that their relationship with the two men overlapped.
In September, the actor-director told Vanity Fair, “The complete horses**t idea that I left Jason for Harry is completely inaccurate. Our relationship was over long before I met Harry.”
Wilde shares her two children with the Ted Lasso star, Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5, and their former nanny came out this week with a new interview in the Daily Mail detailing the breakup of the two stars. The anonymous woman claims Wilde and Sudeikis actually split months after Wilde met Styles. Sudeikis reportedly discovered details of her relationship with the former One Direction star via messages on an old Apple Watch.
The nanny recalled an incident where Sudeikis laid underneath Wilde’s car to prevent her from leaving to see Styles. The actor was allegedly furious that Wilde was making Styles a salad “with her special dressing” in front of him.
“I said, what salad dressing? He said: ‘She has a special salad dressing she makes for us and she’s taken it to have it with him now’. I don’t know what was in it,” the nanny recalled. “Out of everything, he was like, ‘she made her special salad dressing and took it to him.’”
Wilde and Sudeikis have since released a joint statement, calling the former nanny’s claims, “false and scurrilous accusations.”
“As parents, it is incredibly upsetting to learn that a former nanny of our two young children would choose to make such false and scurrilous accusations about us publicly,” they continued. “Her now 18-month long campaign of harassing us, as well as loved ones, close friends, and colleagues, has reached its unfortunate apex. We will continue to focus on raising and protecting our children with the sincere hope that she will now choose to leave our family alone.”
