For Nina Ricci’s Spring/Summer 2021′ collection, design duo Lisi Herrebrugh and Rushemy Botter offered up an aquatic themed collection—on par with their offering over at Botter this season—continuing their commitment to our planet’s oceans and coral reefs. Rockpool shades of sand, kelp green, turquoise, and oyster grey paired with coral reef and marine life motifs, rounded up the collection. Showing digitally, this season was accompanied by a short film/digital runway show, titled “Tomorrow’s Mermaids”, which showcased models walking through projections of melting icecaps and massive ocean-scapes. As campy and conceptual as the nods to oceanic life are, it’s clear that Herrebrugh & Botter have something to say, and are using their platforms—and runways—to shine a light of environmental issues.

While this season echos codes as of late of their namesake label, Nina Ricci leans more into smart tailoring with a collection of beautifully cut jackets, trousers and a coral reef-esque printed suit. A reoccurring netting through line, anchors the collection with skirts overlaid with netting, netted tops, even netted head coverings. The aquatic theme is visually present throughout with some looks leaning fully into the underwater aesthetic, while others simply nod to it. It’s clear that the design (and life) partners, are in the business of offering narratives close to home—more personal!
