On Friday, Nov. 4, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott took the stage for her first (and may we add epic!) performance since the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The Las Vegas show was a surprise debut to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her second album Under Construction, which featured some of the hip hop legend’s most famous songs including Work It and Gossip Folks. This anniversary is one of many, shortly following the 25th anniversary of Supa Dupa Fly in July.
In addition to her long-loved songs, over the years Elliott has also become a fashion icon. In her comeback performance, Elliott took the stage by storm in an eye-catching black-and-white sequin track suit with a matching Prada bucket hat — proving her stage style is still very much on point.
Missy Elliott’s surprise performance was held in partnership with the launch of PATRÓN EL ALTO as well as the unveiling of her first (and very realistic) wax figure at Madame Tussauds.
“There was so much to celebrate this weekend,” Elliott exclusively tells GRAZIA USA, “From my first wax figure at Madame Tussauds, the launch of PATRÓN EL ALTO and the 20th anniversary of my album Under Construction with close friends, fam and, of course, PATRÓN.”
She continues, “I’ve always been a fan of PATRÓN and am so grateful for their support to celebrate these milestone moments in my career!”
To launch PATRÓN’s new high-end, rare and masterfully aged tequila, the brand hosted a VIP weekend in Sin City flying press, influencers and celebrity friends of the brand out on El Alto Airways, a luxe private jet decked out in PATRÓN EL ALTO décor and hosted an in-flight tasting. “PATRÓN EL ALTO continues to elevate the standards of tequila, demonstrating our tireless dedication to perfection. The brand hosted a private event tequila tasting at Jalisco Underground at Wally’s before Elliott’s performance and invited a slew of celebrity guests to join, including Jessica Wang, The Bachelorette and The Bachelor alums Tayshia Adams and Nick Viall, Vanderpump Rules stars Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney and Selling Sunset‘s Mary Fitzgerald and Jason Oppenheim.
PATRÓN EL ALTO took over Vegas nightlife for the entirety of the weekend, boasting its beautiful turquoise bottle across the screens and tables of the nightclubs — and they also got the bottle into the hands of Missy Elliott herself.
Elliott wowed the crowd during her show at Zouk nightclub, hopping off stage and opting to perform alongside her fans. The Pass That Dutch singer danced through the sea of people while holding hands with fans. A huge smile was spread across her face as Missy lovers sang along to Elliott’s top hits.
The weekend continued with a PATRÓN-sponsored VIP dinner on Saturday in honor of Elliott and her achievements and featured a list of specialty cocktails named after the night’s special honoree, such as The Missy Margarita and Under Construction Old Fashioned.
One more surprise was in store when Lil Wayne arrived in Vegas to attend the dinner to show support for his longtime friend and fellow artist. “I’m humbly GRATEFUL you flew in to celebrate with with me it meant so much🤗💜” Elliott wrote in her Instagram post dedicated to the event-filled weekend.
As Milly Elliott continues to reach new heights in her career, so does the tequila brand. “PATRÓN has been an industry leader and will once again change the game as it enters the prestige category of tequila, a segment forecasted to double in size by 2025, with the launch of PATRÓN EL ALTO,” said Hageman.
