Our favorite beauty looks from a night of American fashion.
The First Monday In May is looking a little more like the Second Monday In September, but if you know what that term means, you’re probably thrilled that this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, or Met Gala, has returned. The event has been called the “party of the year,” where the biggest names in culture gather to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and to mark the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual show. This year sees the opening of In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which isn’t a Tony Kushner reference like my little playwriting brain thought. Like always the Met Gala will be a passionate example and defense of American fashion. The event is hosted by some of the biggest up-and-comers in media and entertainment: poet Amanda Gorman, actor Timothée Chalamet, tennis champion Naomi Osaka, and singer/ wunderkind Billie Eilish.
While you all are going to freak out about the fashion — and trust me, the fashion is going to be fantastic — it is also important to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of the hair and makeup teams at work. With masks being a requirement, it’ll be intriguing to see how the teams adapt the looks accordingly. Here is our favorite beauty of the evening.
