Who knew that a night at the Golden Globes seated next to Blake Lively and the Jonas Brothers would lead to Megan Fox’s sobriety? In a recent interview about a rundown of her past fashion, the 35-year-old actress explained why the evening prompted her to call alcohol quits once and for all.

They call alcohol “truth juice” for a reason, and it seems like in Fox’s case, the Jennifer’s Body actress had a few choice words on the red carpet of the event after one too many glasses of Moet champagne.

“At the Golden Globes they always put those giant bottles of Moet champagne on the table. I went through multiple glasses of that,” Fox said in the interview. “Now I don’t drink and this is why. I was belligerent. Said a bunch of sh*t I shouldn’t have said on the red carpet after that.”

The interviewer gave Fox a red carpet shot of her at the 2009 Golden Globes in a gold, spaghetti-strap Ralph Lauren gown. Fox commented on her tight updo at the time saying “I hate wearing my hair like this, I cannot believe I allowed this to happen.”

Fox goes on to say that after the event, although she’s unsure, she probably got into a lot of trouble after the drunken episode on the red carpet. “I don’t remember why but I know that I did,” Fox said.

If you watch the video of Fox on the red carpet, it’s borderline hard to watch. She rambles on about how she’s a “doppelgänger for Alan Alda,”  going on to say that she’s so “painfully insecure and on the verge of vomiting.” Through her other drunken ramblings she says that she’s “horrified that she’s [at the Golden Globes],” and “embarrassed.”

Commenting on Frida star Salma Hayek, Fox says she wishes “she had her boobs” after a back and forth exchange with a visibly uncomfortable interviewer.

While messy, going on a drunken ramble for your debut on the Golden Globes red carpet is fitting for pre-sobriety Fox. She was blunt and unfiltered, a character trait we’ve come to know and love from the actress.
