The New York City townhouse Mary-Kate Olsen lost in her divorce with her ex-husband Olivier Sarkozy has been listed for sale for $11.5 million USD, $2 million less than Sarkozy originally paid for the property in 2014.

The five-story Manhattan mansion is now unfinished and empty in the real estate images, which were listed to Realtor.com, though its fireplaces and 22-foot coffered ceiling remain. Photos show the 8,700-square-foot Regency-style house with dark wood finishes that sharply contrast ghostly-white modern rooms with skylights and arched windows. According to the listing, the townhouses face each other to create a shared “fairytale” garden.

When the former couple bought the property, which was designed in 1921, they renovated it while renting townhouses nearby during construction, The Post reported at the time. Former residents of the townhouse included a banking and railroad heiress, actress Katherine Hepburn, composer Stephen Sondheim, journalist Dorothy Thompson and book editor Maxwell Perkins, who worked with F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, according to the New York Times.

Olsen and  Sarkozy recently finalized their divorce after five years of marriage. Olsen reportedly initially tried to file for divorce on 17th April 2020 but was blocked due to COVID-19 restrictions in New York City. Things only got messier from there: Olsen detailed in documents submitted to the courts that she had received a letter from Sarkozy’s lawyers asking her to move out of their apartment by 18th May, despite the city’s stay-at-home orders. She wrote that the lease on the apartment had been terminated without her knowledge and that she was “petrified” she would lose not only her home, but all of her belongings inside as well.

Olsen and Sarkozy married in 2015, and though they did not have any children together, Sarkozy has two teenagers from a previous relationship. His decision to not want more children was reportedly one of the reasons behind the split.

Olsen then spent a few months recovering outside of the city, staying in the Hamptons with her close friends and twin sister, Ashley, before returning to New York City where she has been slowly getting back into the world of dating.
