Margot Robbie has a brand new role. The Australian actress (and soon-to-be mom) joins a list of iconic women as the face of Chanel No.5.

The famed fragrance has been fronted by Catherine Deneuve, Nicole Kidman, Gisele Bündchen, Marilyn Monroe — who famously said she wore “nothing but Chanel No.5 and a smile” to bed — and Gabrielle Chanel, herself.

Known for breaking boundaries, Gabrielle Chanel forged her own path; she designed frocks in sleek black, fashioned pants when women only wore skirts and commissioned the creation of a fragrance made from a complex formula of essences, rather than the single note scents available at the time. Honoring this legacy, it’s no surprise that the house of Chanel chose a similarly groundbreaking woman to represent the perfume.

Robbie stole hearts as the titular character in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, 2023’s neo-feminist film phenomenon (which she also produced.) She’s brought complex female characters to life in Martin Scorcese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and portraying controversial figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, for which she received an Oscar nomination, and was produced under her LuckyChap production banner. In fact, LuckyChap notably champions the stories of strong women.

Robbie sees her new role as the face of No.5 an extension of female empowerment. “I think Chanel No.5 is one of the most iconic fragrances in the world. It’s incredible to be a part of it,” she says. “There’s such an impressive lineage of women who’ve been associated with the fragrance over the years. I am very honored to be joining that long list of incredible talents.”

Of course Robbie is no stranger to the French fashion house. She partnered with the brand as an ambassador in March of 2018 and fronted the campaign for the Gabrielle Chanel Essence created by in-house perfumer Olivier Polges in the fall of 2019.

The ad campaign celebrating this new era of Chanel No.5 dropped on October 14. The actress stars in the sexy ‘See You at 5’, a short film directed by Luca Guadagnino, alongside Hollywood hearthrob (and fellow Aussie) Jacob Elordi. Like all things inspired by Gabrielle Chanel, in the film, Robbie is an inimitably strong woman taking control of her destiny.
