Hot off the heels of our first look at Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the Barbie co-stars have been spotted dressed in character while filming in Venice Beach, California — and their looks involve a whole lot of can’t-miss bright neon pieces.

With their peroxide blonde hair under multicolor visors, Gosling adorned a hot pink tank under a colorful vest, paired with matching printed shorts, and a neon green fanny pack, wrist-warmers, knee-pads, and rollerblades with pink laces. Matching her on-screen beau, Robbie was seen in a colorfully printed leotard over a pair of hot pink bike shorts, with lime green elbow-pads, knee-pads, rollerblades with pink laces, and neon green hoop earrings, transforming into a picturesque Malibu Barbie.

With Robbie as the titular role of Barbie in the Mattel biopic, Gosling stars as Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken, while Will Ferrell, Academy Award-winner Emerald Fennell, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Simu Liu (as another Ken doll), and Sex Education‘s Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa, are also set to appear in the LuckyChap Entertainment production.

With filming of the WB and Mattel Films project beginning earlier this year in London, the cast has been spotted out and about recently in California. Stepping out last week, Robbie and Gosling were seen wearing glam-cowgirl costumes. Robbie also was photographed wearing a hot pink two-piece set in a cropped vest with stars emblazoned along the lapel, and matching bell bottoms, also with stars embellished at the flair, plus a pink bandana tied around her neck.

Directed by the inimitable Greta Gerwig, the beloved auteur is responsible for bringing us films like 2017’s Lady Bird and 2019’s Little Women. Gerwig also co-wrote the script with her partner Marriage Story’s Noah Baumbach.

Set to hit screens on July 21, 2023, the story revolves around a doll who is shunned from Barbieland due to her perceived flaws. As she embarks on an exciting adventure in the real world, she realizes that “perfection” ultimately comes from the inside.

The actress told British Vogue last summer that playing such an iconic figure, “comes with a lot of baggage” and “nostalgic connections.” However, she added, “with that come[s] a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

Added to the growing list of Mattel-centered adaptations, Emily in Paris‘ Lily Collins is set to appear in the upcoming feature on Polly Pocket, the beloved ’90s toy directed by Girls creator Lena Dunham.
