LOS ANGELES: The Guardian’s Peter Bradley aptly described Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn “like smoking a cigarette and eating a chocolate bar at the same time,” and honestly, the same simile can be used for the 29-year-old’s Oscar look tonight. Glamorous and addictive, Robbie arrived in a black, strapless vintage Chanel gown – with detached, sheer sleeves and a gold brooch detail – at the 92nd Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
While her chameleon reputation precedes her, Robbie’s affinity for Chanel always captures the sartorialist’s lens. This award season has seen a technicolor bustier and crisp white satin crepe skirt at the Golden Globes, a heavenly plaid halter at the SAGs and black lace peplum gown at the BAFTAs just last week.
Nominated tonight in the Best Actress In A Supporting Role category for her role as FOX News journalist Kayla Posposil in Bombshell – a fictional character written into the true story of FOX News founder Roger Ailes – Robbie will go head-to-head with Laura Dern (Marriage Story), Scarlett Johansson (Jojo Rabbit), Florence Pugh (Little Women) and Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell).
Robbie is not the only Bombshell cast or crew member up for an Oscar. Makeup artist Kazu Hiro is nominated for her work on the film, namely for the prosthetic magic she worked on Charlize Theron to transform her into news anchor Megyn Kelly. The Oscar winning artist has said Theron required a nose plug to make her nostrils flare, a prosthetic nose and chin and jaw and eyelid pieces. Theron is also nominated for Best Actress In A Leading Role.
This is Robbie’s second Oscars nomination. She was nominated for Best Actress in her film I, Tonya in 2018. Will tonight be her night?
More to come.
